  • Description: This affectionate charcoal caricature was published as part of a set of eminent personalities in the New Statesman. Low, whose most famous character was the comic reactionary \'Colonel blimp\', described himself as \'a nuisance dedicated to sanity\'. Low noted in his autobiography that \'I always had the greatest difficulty in making Lloyd George sinister in a cartoon. Every time I drew him, however critical the comment, I had to be careful or he would spring off the drawing board a lovely cherubic little chap.\'
