  • Description: Robert Lenkiewicz was born in North London, the son of refugees who ran a Jewish hotel he studied at St Martin\'s college of art and design at the age of 16 and went on to the Royal Academy. A celebrated artist of modern times Robert Lenkiewicz was unfashionable in high art circles, but popular with the public. Painting on a large scale and often exploring hidden communities such as the homlessness and those experiencing mental illness or difficult social issues for instance suicide and death.

    Linkiewicz died in 2002 leaving this painting of Michael Foot unfinished.

    Michael Foot joined the Labour party in Liverpool in 1924. He went on to become MP for Plymouth, Davenport, Ebbw Vale and Blaenau Gwent. Secretary of state for employment 1974-76, Leader of the Commons and Lord President of the Privy Council 1976-79. He became Deputy Leader of the Labour party in 1976-80 and Leader of the Labour party 1980-83.

    In addition to his Parliamentary career Foot also continued his work as a journalist and writer and was assistant editor of the tribune 1937-38, joint editor 1948-52 and editor 1955-60. In 1942-44 he was the acting editor for the Evening Standard and political columnist on the daily Herald 1944-64. Among his published works are autobiographies of Anuerin Bevan and HG Wells.
