    This Commons Library Briefing Paper sets out results of the by-elections held since the 2015 election. Currently there have been six by-elections, the latest ones were in Batley & Spen and Witney which were held on 20 October 2016. Full details are presented in the associated PDF but an overview of the recent by-election results are shown below.

    This House of Commons Library Briefing Paper gives background to the change in length of the by-election timetable effected by the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013. The Parliamentary by-election timetable is now between 21 and 27 working days from the issuing of the writ (it had previously been between 13 and 19 days). The Paper also gives details of the new model timetable.
    10.10.2014By-elections 2010-15
    The by-election in Rochester and Strood on 20 November 2014 was the 21st since the 2010 General Election. UKIP took the seat from the Conservatives with a majority of 2,920, pushing the Conservatives into second place.
