Nationality (2017)

Request

Please publish a table showing the nationality of staff employed by the House of Commons, broken down by (a) UK citizens, (b) European Union citizens, which are not UK or Irish passport holders, (c) non UK or EU citizens.

Response

For the purpose of security clearance, all staff have to declare a nationality and therefore the Parliamentary Security Department holds records of staff nationality on the Pass Office database. The table below details a breakdown of staff nationality, including those pass holders with dual nationality.

Please note these figures are for all current, valid pass holders who have been issued a pass as an employee of the House of Commons and bi-cameral departments as at 7 April 2017.

Nationality Number
UK 1971
EU (but not UK or Irish) 112
Non UK and EU 108
Irish 25

Dual Nationality Number
British/EU 19
British/Non EU 134
EU/Non EU 16
Irish/Non EU *
