For all the years for which you hold information:

1) How many (if any) nominations has the House of Commons made (or been party to) for orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom?

2) Please provide a breakdown of nominations per year, and how many (if any) of those nominations were successful.

We have interpreted your request to mean nominations for honours made by the House of Commons Service (as opposed to political parties within the House of Commons), including a breakdown by category and those which were successful.

In the first instance, it may help to explain how the House of Commons makes nominations for honours. Nominations are made by the Speaker of the House to the Parliament and Political Services Honours Committee, which sits in the Cabinet Office and forms one of a number of Honours Committees. House Staff can nominate their colleagues either via the Cabinet Office website, or by internally contacting the Managing Director of their team. Internal nominations are received by the Speaker’s Office, and this is the information which will be held by the House.

Some information is held by the House regarding your request. The House holds information on honours nominations for House (administration) staff made by the House for the years 2014 to 2022, nominations for Members for the years 2014 to 2020, and one nomination made for a Members’ staffer in 2018. This also includes information on successful nominations where held. Please also note that the House does not make nominations for any other groups, including political party staff.
Information on honours nominations

Please also note the following regarding this information:
• Since June 2020 nominations for Members are now put forward solely by political parties and decided directly by the Parliament and Political Services Honours Committee instead. This reflects a change in approach by the current Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

• The House only holds information on successful nominations in certain instances, specifically when we hold a congratulatory letter from the Speaker of the House to nominees, which are not always retained on record. The Cabinet Office is likely to hold more information on successful nominations by the House, and you may wish to contact them regarding this also; details on how to make an FOI request to the Cabinet Office can be found on their website.
