Confectionery sales (2020)

Request

Could I seek since the beginning of 2020 on a monthly basis what was the top 100 items of confectionery purchased across retail outlets across the Parliamentary estate?

Response

You have asked the House of Commons for information concerning monthly breakdown of the top 100 items of confectionery purchased across retail outlets across the parliamentary estate from the 1 January 2020 to the date of your request on 20 December 2020. We have interpreted your request for ‘retail outlets’ to refer to Parliament’s shops.

Please note that our response only deals with retail outlets on the parliamentary estate for which the House of Commons is responsible. Some retail outlets are the responsibility of the House of Lords, which is a separate public authority for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act. You may wish to consider forwarding your request to the House of Lords.

This information is held by the House of Commons.

Please note that no information was collected for April or May 2020, because all retail outlets managed by the House of Commons were closed during these months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Please also note that the customers who use the retail venues typically include some of the 650 elected Members of Parliament, 14,500 other pass-holders (MPs’ staff, House staff, civil servants, contractors, Peers, members of the Press Gallery, etc.) as well as a large number of non-pass holding visitors to Parliament. However the number of customers in parliamentary retail outlets managed by the House of Commons has been limited throughout much of 2020, in line with UK lockdown measures and restricted access to the parliamentary estate.
