Bar closures during lockdown (2022)

Request

Please can you advise if the bars in the House of Commons and House of Lords were closed during the various Covid19 lockdowns?

Response

Our response below only deals with bars for which the House of Commons is responsible, because the House of Lords is a separate public authority for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). However, you can request information from the House of Lords by contacting them directly.

In the first instance, please understand that there are a range of catering venues for which the House of Commons is responsible - including bars - and we hold information about their operation. We can confirm that the sale of alcohol in all these venues was suspended at the same time bars were closed in England due to the Government’s Covid-19 rules.

It may also interest you to know that the House of Commons publishes large amounts of helpful information about our catering service, including price lists, access arrangements, sample menus etc., in the interests of transparency. This can be found on the transparency pages of our website.
