Events in 2015

Visit from India - 12th November 2015

The Prime Minister of India gave a speech to both Houses of Parliament on 12th November 2015. Costs totalling £3,631.68 were incurred to host this event.

State Visit from China - 20th to 23rd October 2015

The President of the People's Republic of China addressed both Houses of Parliament on 20th October 2015. Costs totalling £11,178.36 were incurred to host this event.

General Election 2015

The figures in the below table are identifiable costs (to date) of the General Election. These costs include the provision of; staff, services (like training), office relocation (porterage and removal), equipment (including IT) and constituency connections (for secure networks) required in order to facilitate the General Election 2015 and the induction of new Members of Parliament. Costs as at 15th October 2015 (incurred across two estimates), are as below;

The House of Commons uses the dissolution period as an opportunity to accelerate some maintenance works and to refresh some of the office accommodation once they have been vacated by Members of Parliament, as these works are sometimes obtrusive or noisy and cannot be undertaken whilst the office is in use. These works have cost £884,717.13 to date. 

State Opening of parliament 2015

Identifiable costs incurred by the House of Commons, as at on 31st August 2015: £202,409.42. Included within these costs are the additional costs for policing (represented by additional overtime costs and does not include the costs of the officers who would be on duty anyway), the removal and re-installation of the security barriers and the marginal costs from the House service (i.e. most operating costs are fixed for the year).
This information does not represent the full cost of State Opening, as costs will also have been incurred by other bodies, which may include the House of Lords, Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police and the Royal Household.

State Visit from Mexico - 3rd to 5th March 2015

The President of the United Mexican States addressed Members of both Houses of Parliament on Tuesday 3rd March. Costs totalling £2,102.40 were incurred by the House of Commons.
