Parliamentary passes (2017)

Request

  1. A list of all passholders sponsored by MPs
  2. Date of pass issue

Response

Information on parliamentary pass holders sponsored by MPs is held by the House of Commons. Members may sponsor passes for their staff, but also for private individuals such as family members who do not work for them.

Information relating to passes held by private individuals who do not work for any Member is withheld. This information is exempt by virtue of section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the exemption for personal information), as disclosure of this information to the public generally, in the House’s view, would not be consistent with data protection principles in the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). This is an absolute exemption and the public interest test does not apply.

The names of these individuals are already in the public domain because they are required to register in the Register of Interests of Members' Secretaries and Research Assistants, available on the parliamentary website.

To provide you with data on pass issue dates for Members’ staff, we have taken the list of their names from the most recent Register and added the dates from a separate database. Please be aware that some newer staff may not appear on this list if their names have not yet been included in the Register, so we cannot guarantee this list is complete.
