Political funding (2015)

Request

  1. How much money Douglas Carswell MP and/or UKIP has received through the policy development grant?
  2. Are there any other mechanisms by which the party or its MP can or will receive money from the Commons/Parliament/taxpayer that you know of?
  3. Are you also able to tell me from where the requests are received? Through the MP’s office or from the central party?

Response

  1. How much money has Douglas Carswell MP and/or UKIP received through the policy development grant?
This information is not held by the House of Commons.
Policy Development Grants are administered by the Electoral Commission and queries relating to the grant should be directed to them.
  2. Are there any other mechanisms by which the party or its MP can or will receive money from the Commons/Parliament/taxpayer that you know of?
This information is not held as no other mechanism is administered by the House of Commons.
You may find it helpful to view the Commons Research Paper entitled “Political Party funding: sources and Regulations”.
  3. Are you also able to tell me from where the requests are received? Through the MP’s office or from the central party?
Information about requests for Short Money is held by the House of Commons. Requests for Short Money are received from the relevant parliamentary parties, with authorisation provided by an appropriate MP’s signature. This is also the case with the UK Independence Party (UKIP).
