Gym (2018)

Request

1. The cost to the House of Commons authorities of the impending move of the Parliamentary Estate gym to Richmond House including: 
 a. Moving costs of gym equipment from Parliamentary Estate to Richmond House
 b. Set up costs of temporary location in Richmond House
 c. Cost of House of Commons staff time, or contractor staff time, in relocating the gym from Parliamentary Estate to Richmond House
 d. Cost of any new gym equipment purchases due to the move
 
2. The projected cost to the House of Commons authorities of the return of the gym to the Parliamentary Estate from Richmond House after works are complete including: 
 a. Projected moving costs of equipment
 b. Projected set up costs
 c. Projected cost of House of Commons staff time, or contractor staff time, in relocating the gym back to the Parliamentary Estate
 
3. How much of the costs from questions 1 and 2 will be covered by the Jubilee Hall Trust who run the gym.

 

Response

Please note that, while the House of Lords and the House of Commons are separate public authorities for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act, the parliamentary gym is a bicameral service and so the following response covers both Houses.

1) The cost to the House of Commons authorities of the move of the parliamentary estate gym to Richmond House including:

a) Moving costs of gym equipment from parliamentary estate to Richmond House

Information held by the House of Commons is as follows. The cost of moving the gym equipment to Richmond House was:
£7,440 (inc VAT) for moving heavy gym kit
£2575 (exc VAT) for moving other equipment

b) Set up costs of temporary location in Richmond House

This information is held by the House of Commons. The following are the costs (excluding VAT) associated with the temporary relocation, including projected figures where they are known:

Removal of raised floor and installation of new gym floor:  £9836
Provision and installation of 2 Annunciators at the new location:  £4000
Structural engineers advice: £525

Please also note that the following costs are not known at the time of your request:
Installation of a data connection (Broadband), telephone connection and power points at the new location

c) Cost of House of Commons staff time, or contractor staff time, in relocating the gym from parliamentary estate to Richmond House

Other than specific contractor costs noted in part b), staff time costs involved in relocating the gym are not held by the House of Commons as they cannot be disaggregated from general staff costs.

d) Cost of any new gym equipment purchases due to the move

This information is not held by the House of Commons as no new gym equipment has been bought due to the relocation. Existing equipment is being reutilised.

This information is not held by the House of Commons. These costs will be calculated in the new year.
