Cost of Cleaning (2015)

Request

The annual costs of cleaning products the House of Commons spends.

Response

Most of the cleaning of the parliamentary buildings within the greater House of Commons - including many offices, corridors, catering areas and public spaces - is contracted to the cleaning company Servest. Costs of cleaning products used by that company are not held by the House of Commons.

However, some areas, described as “high profile” or “heritage” areas, are cleaned by the Heritage Cleaning Team, who are directly employed by the House of Commons. Information is held relating to cleaning products purchased for use by these specialist heritage cleaners.  For the last financial year (2014/15), costs of cleaning products purchased for this purpose was £28,423.

Information is also held relating to cleaning products purchased by Catering Services, such as chemicals for the dishwasher, oven cleaner, paper towels, cloths etc. For the last financial year (2014/15), expenditure on these consumables was £45,642.
