29 January 2016 at 21:00I don't want to see this Smart Meter rollout happen. All I've seen about these Smart Meters is negativity. They're a threat to health, they're a threat to our finances, and they're a threat to our safety. I don't really need to go into the specifics of the adverse health effects caused by these things. Plenty of people have done that in the comments here already. All I can say is, from everything that I have researched, they're 100% correct. You only have to do some digging and genuine research on the Internet. As these meters are being installed, thousands upon thousands are suffering health effects. This ranges all the way from insomnia, nausea and headaches, to more specific illnesses regarding electro sensitivity. There is also the fact that these things are shown in many studies to be carcinogenic! I can't believe with all that evidence the Government is still going ahead with them. Smart Meters give out a special kind of pulsed radiation. This allows the safety tests to be measured in a certain way, to then present them as safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can see one investigative report on the Internet especially. The reporter goes near these things and carries out a measurement on behalf of the audience. The radiation levels show that these things are well in excess of safe levels. You also can see how many of these things have caught fire, once installed. And what happens when all of these effects are experienced? Do the utility companies take any responsibility for it whatsoever? The answer is, that no they don't. People who have spoken out against the effects have had their testaments ignored. People in California who have refused installation have had these things forcibly installed anyway. The invasion of privacy and of security is through the roof - from every angle. Once installed, these Smart Meters carry out in-house surveillance. Using these devices, utility companies can get a detailed view of day-to-day activities in the house. These activities are then put onto a database, which is kept for further reference. These details have even been shared to Third Parties. The last real concern regarding things is the blatant mis-advertising in terms of prices. The sales-pitch for these things is that they will lower consumer prices. That's true, but only on one level. To understand this, you only need to look at time-of-use-pricing, which is a feature of Smart Meters. This is where the corporations will intend to charge higher prices during peak hours. During hours that are off-peak, these prices will go down. So from this perspective, prices do come down, but with a lot of social engineering going on in the process. How long will it be before this process is expanded once mass installation has happened? This is why I am opposed to Smart Meter installation. There's too much damage to our health from these devices. There's too much of a safety hazard. There's too much surveillance and control involved with these devices. They're a total hazard, and I'm dead-set against it. For as long as this installation goes ahead, I'll do everything I can do to raise awareness!

29 January 2016 at 20:58Smart meters are the way forward. I see no harm in a cellular modem connected to a device that measures electricity consumption which transmits an SMS message containing the readings a few times a day and otherwise is turned off. It's going to make such a positive difference to be able to empower electricity users to monitor their electricity consumption and save the cost of having to employ people to go and read millions of meters. There really can't be any negative reasons not to push ahead with a smart meter roll out. I wonder how many of the concerned individuals go to bed each night with their smart phone next to them on the bedside table. How long have we been living in a world with cellular towers nearby? Who has a wifi internet router in their home? How does having a device that contains a transmitter with just enough power to send a signal to a nearby cell tower suddenly give you a headache? Is it because you suddenly have a truly accurate and timely bill?

29 January 2016 at 20:56The Smart Meters must be banned. People have developed health symptoms after smart meters been installed in their homes. They developed headache, dizziness, heart palpitations, seizures and nausea. They are detrimental to young children and babies health.

29 January 2016 at 20:39People should be given a "choice" if they want this technology in their houses. This also means that people should not be pushed into having to have these things installed because of the threat from energy companies of horrific price increases if a customer chooses not to have a smart meter installed.

29 January 2016 at 20:08There is increasing evidence of the dangers of microwave radiation at non thermal levels. The subtle electrical interactions of the body are thrown into chaos by the vast increase in background environmental radiation we have been exposed to over the past 50 years. Mercury from amalgam fillings becomes 'active' and is known to be very dangerous. Mood and behavior have been shown to be affected by changes in frequency. Sleep and mental acuity have been affected. To continue down the road of ever increasing radiation exposure is irresponsible in the face of the evidence that is slowly presenting itself.

29 January 2016 at 20:08I am opposed to smart meters as I do not believe the technology has been proven safe. I am concerned that smart meters present a security issue, given that they record power usage and the details of times of activity could be used to predict when someone will be at home or not, even banks get hacked, I'm sure this system is no less vulnerable. I am also concerned about the prohibitive costs involved, our government is poor they keep telling us, there is not enough money for this if we cant even afford to fund the NHS and vital services.

29 January 2016 at 20:03I do not believe that these should be rolled out and enforced by the energy companies. So many complaints have been made regarding the negative effects they have had on the lives of those having to live with them, and yet no-one is held accountable for this. We should be able to choose what we allow into our homes, as no-one knows our families as well as we do. I am extremely sensitive to electronic equipment being used, and even to wi-fi. For the sake of my health and that of my children I cannot allow one of these "smart meters" into our home.

29 January 2016 at 20:02The PDF file contains a nice presentation of propaganda in favour of smart meters but not a single word as to the serious health risks pertaining to the use of these nasty devices. As far as I am concerned there will be NO smart meter installation in my home or business premises period.

29 January 2016 at 21:07This is a privacy and health nightmare, not to mention infringement of human rights. The WHO has classified radio frequency communications as a Class 2b carcinogen, potentially carcinogenic. What right do we have to insist that these carcinogenic machines be installed in people's homes against their will. The microwave pandemic is one that will burst on the scene twenty years from now just as the lung cancer from smoking has already done. What proof is there that these are safe and can be installed near children's bedrooms without effect over the life of the child or pregnant woman? I recommend reading the bioinitiative report and looking at the website stopsmartmeters.org for further information on this catastrophe that needs to be stopped.
