About Westminster Hall debates

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays there are two one and a half hour debates and three half hour debates. The longer debates are intended for broader subjects where a number of MPs will want to speak. The shorter debates may focus on an issue that an MP may want to raise about their constituency.

We have tried to make the transcript of the debate a little more accessible by:

  • Adding brief introductions to the MPs taking part in the debate, outlining their interest in the subject under discussion.
  • Addingrelevant links to material referred to during the debate.
  • Adding sub headings to the transcript tohelp signpost discussion topics.
