The dissolution of Parliament took place on Thursday 30 May 2024. All business in the House of Commons and House of Lords has come to an end. There are currently no MPs and every seat in the Commons is vacant until after the general election on 4 July 2024.

On Tuesday 21 July, the Select Committee on the Equality Act 2010 and Disability hears from three representatives of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on the implementation and enforcement of the Equality Act 2010.

The EHRC has duties to promote, monitor, enforce and keep the Act under review.

The questioning is likely to focus on:

  • the effect of incorporating disability with other protected characteristics
  • disability provisions in the current Codes of Practice
  • enforcement and implementation of disability provisions
  • the effectiveness of the EHRC and its relationship with the Government
  • the involvement of disabled people in the work of the Commission.
