Description

This fun, interactive Introduction to UK Parliament assembly will be delivered to your school or college by one of our outreach officers. Assemblies can be for the whole school/college or year group and are generally 30 minutes in length, but this can be flexible subject to your requirements. 

Learning outcomes

Content and outcomes are differentiated by age group and tailored to the relevant curriculum.

For ages 7 - 11

  • Our democracy and Parliament's role within it
  • How young people can get involved in the work of Parliament
  • Understanding the role of their MP and members of the House of Lords

For ages 11 - 14

  • Our democracy and Parliament's role within it
  • How young people can get involved in the work of Parliament
  • Understanding the role of their MP and members of the House of Lords
  • Exploring how Parliament makes and shapes laws for everyone
  • Identifying how Parliament holds the Government to account
  • An introduction to elections and voting

For ages 14 - 16

  • Our democracy and Parliament's role within it
  • How young people can get involved in the work of Parliament
  • Understanding the role of their MP and members of the House of Lords
  • Exploring how Parliament makes and shapes laws for everyone
  • Identifying how Parliament holds the Government to account
  • An introduction to elections and voting
  • What it means to be an active citizen

For ages 16 - 18

  • Our democracy and Parliament's role within it
  • How young people can get involved in the work of Parliament
  • Understanding the role of their MP and members of the House of Lords
  • Exploring how Parliament makes and shapes laws for everyone
  • Identifying how Parliament holds the Government to account
  • An introduction to elections and voting
  • What it means to be an active citizen
  • The separate but complimentary roles of the House of Commons and the House of Lords
  • Case studies of successful young campaigners
  • The role of select committees
