Ask the Speaker

A live video call from your classroom where you can put your questions to the House of Commons Speaker.

Ask the Speaker

What is Ask the Speaker?

  • How did you become an MP?
  • Why do you say Order! Order?
  • What does impartiality mean?

Are some of the most popular questions the Speaker of the House of Commons – John Bercow is asked. What would your students ask?

For 40 minutes on a Monday your students will get him out of the Speaker's Chair and into the Hot Seat!

Watch this short video to find out more.

Who can take part?

Ask The Speaker is open to all students aged 7 – 18. There is space for everyone and if you are:

  • A school assembly or a big group
  • Or far away from London
  • Or if you have never been to parliament

You could see the Speaker sooner.

What's in it for my school?

Taking part in Ask the Speaker will help you reach your curriculum aims. When your session is confirmed we will send you resources, to fit the time you have, to help your group get ready. If you don’t know your cabinet minister from your back bencher, don’t worry, you don’t need to be an expert to take part.
