That this House warmly welcomes the refugee families that will be arriving in South Lakeland from Syria over the coming weeks; congratulates South Lakeland District Council for its work in preparation for the arrival of those refugees to ensure that all the necessary services are in place, including the creation of a local support group that will include a range of community representatives; thanks local representatives from Amnesty International, Global Justice Now and the South Lakes More in Common group for setting up the Refugees Welcome Here stall in Kendal on 23 June 2017; recognises the fantastic effort made by these campaigners in giving members of the public up-to-date information about the imminent arrival of Syrian families to South Cumbria; and further recognises the compassion among local residents for the plight of people fleeing for their lives, as well as their pro-activism and eagerness to do something positive to help.
