That this House welcomes the news that the number of girls joining Girlguiding UK increased last year by 8,200 to almost 540,000 members who are Rainbows, Brownies, Guides or are in the Senior Section; pays tribute to the 80,000 volunteer leaders without whom the Guide Movement could not exist; notes that with a waiting list of around 44,000 even more girls would join if further adult leaders came forward; agrees with the Chief Guide, Gill Slocombe, that Guiding remains one of the only spaces where girls and young women can be adventurous, learn new skills, have their opinions heard and gain leadership skills outside of school, without feeling they have to conform to a set of narrow stereotypes; and urges all hon. andright hon. Members to support Girlguiding UK in their constituencies.
