That this House expresses its concern that Lord Avebury has been banned from entering Turkey; notes that Turkey is supposed to be a friendly ally of the United Kingdom, is a fellow member of NATO and is an aspirant to membership of the European Union; does not believe that Lord Avebury constitutes in any way a threat to the peace or security of Turkey; can only conclude that the ban arises from the publicity which, as Chair of the Parliamentary Human Rights Group, he has given to the abuse of human rights by the Turkish government; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take all possible action to end the abuse of human rights in Turkey.
