To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the Answer of 16 October 2018 to Question 176052 on animals: antibiotics, whether the legislation the Government plans to bring forward will ban rather than restrict the administration of antibiotics to groups of animals for disease prevention in line with the EU veterinary medicines legislation.
Answered by: George Eustice

The EU Veterinary Medicine legislation proposals included measures to tighten controls on the use of antibiotics, in particular restrictions on their use for disease prevention.

Ministers have confirmed the Government’s intention to implement restrictions on the preventative use of antibiotics in line with new EU legislation.
