Named Day

'Named day' questions only occur in the House of Commons. The MP tabling the question specifies the date on which they should receive an answer. MPs may not table more than five named day questions on a single day.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, if he will publish a list of the free schools that have closed since 2010-11; and how many children were on the roll of each of those schools at the time of those closures.

There are currently 393 free schools open. Since 2010, eight free schools have closed and one closure is planned for summer 2018. They are listed in the attached table.

The primary objective of the Department when making a decision to close a school is to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for pupils and to secure value for money for the taxpayer.
