Bus Services Bill committee stage concludes in the Lords

Members of the House of Lords completed their detailed examination of the Bus Services Bill, in committee stage on Thursday 13 February.

The Bus Services (No. 2) Bill aims to give local authorities control over routes, timetables, connections and fares.

Line by line examination 

Committee stage is a thorough examination of the individual parts (clauses) of the bill.

Starting from the front of the bill, members work through the clauses in order, considering changes (amendments) to the wording or proposals for new clauses.

Committee stage took place over three days:

  • Tuesday 28 January
  • Tuesday 11 February
  • Thursday 13 February.

Proposed changes   

Members speaking on the third and final day of committee stage put forward amendments (PDF) to the bill on subjects including:

  • impact of new law on rural areas
  • regular review of bus fares
  • training programmes for staff.
