What is a recess?

A recess is a break during the parliamentary session (year) in which neither the House of Commons nor the House of Lords meets to conduct business.

During periods called recesses, MPs continue to carry out their other roles, such as constituency work.

The exact pattern of recesses can change and is usually slightly different for the two Houses of Parliament.
