Monday 1 November
Questions
Members questioned the government on:
- net zero local disruption and opportunities
- impact of the arrival of the tree beetle
- regulation of autonomous weapons systems
- the use of organic nitrogen.
The House of Lords also asked the government an urgent question (PNQ) on the seizure of a UK fishing vessel by French authorities.
Legislation
Members continued line by line consideration of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill (committee stage).
Members debated a motion to regret the Competition Act 1998 (Coronavirus) (Public Policy Exclusions) (Revocations) Order 2021 regarding ferry services to the Isle of Wight.
Tuesday 2 November
Questions
Members questioned the government on:
- the public health grant to local authorities
- the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees
- a register of UK property owned by non-UK residents
- impact of alcohol duty changes in the Budget on hospital admissions and deaths.
Members also questioned the government on plans to prescribe E-cigarettes to aid smoking cessation.
Legislation
Members completed the last checks (third reading) of the Critical Benchmarks (References and Administrators’ Liability) Bill.
Further examination (report stage) of the Social Security (Up-rating of Benefits) Bill started.
The main debate (second reading) on the Advanced Research and Invention Agency Bill took place.
Line by line consideration (committee stage) of the Armed Forces Bill continued in Grand Committee.
Wednesday 3 November
Questions
Members questioned the government on:
- the benefit cap
- departures of early career teachers from teaching
- East Coast Main Line timetable changes
- decisions on new fossil fuel extraction projects.
Members also questioned the government on G20 and COP26 World Leaders Summit statement.
Legislation
Detailed consideration (committee stage) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill continued.
Debates
Members debated the Catchment Based Approach’s Chalk Stream Restoration Strategy 2021.
A debate on the economy and the Budget Statement took place in Grand Committee.
Thursday 4 November
Questions
Members questioned the government on:
- the abolition of temporary cycle lanes in London
- places for nomadic Gypsies and Travellers to legally and safely stop
- second homes: avoidance of council tax
- equal access to COP26.
Debates
Debates took place on:
- government’s policy and spending on the UK creative sector
- facial and other biometric recognition technologies in schools (short debate, one hour)
- leaseholders facing bills for fire and building safety remediation work.
