Emergency debate on European Union Withdrawal

Following a successful application from Sir Oliver Letwin, MPs are taking part in an emergency debate on European Union (Withdrawal). If the motion is approved the Opposition will table the European Union (Withdrawal) (No. 6) Bill tomorrow in the House of Commons.
This emergency debate follows the Prime Minister's decision to prorogue Parliament for five weeks in the lead up to the Brexit date of 31 October 2019.

Application for debate
The House of Commons agreed to an application for an emergency debate, made by Sir Oliver Letwin, on Tuesday 3 September 2019.
An emergency debate is a debate called at short notice in the House of Commons on a matter that should have urgent consideration. An MP may apply to the Speaker for an emergency debate under the rules of Standing Order No. 24.
