House of Lords Private Members’ Bill ballot 2016-17

At the start of each session of Parliament, a ballot is held to agree the order in which private members’ bills (draft laws put forward by individual members rather than the government) will be introduced in the Lords.

The ballot for this session was held on the morning of the day following State Opening and bills were drawn in the order set out below.

The date shown is the date available to introduce the bill. Any member who is unavailable on the day offered may ask another member to introduce the bill on his or her behalf, but remains responsible for the bill. If a bill is not introduced on the day offered, the bill will not be introduced until all the other balloted bills have been introduced.
