This week in the House of Commons MPs debated the timing of the referendum on EU membership, long-term plan for housing and motions on Social Security, the Police Grant (England and Wales), Local Government Finance (England) and more.

Legislation: Government Bills

Two Government Bills were introduced to the House of Commons and given First Reading on Wednesday 10 February 2016. This stage is formal and takes place without any debate.

Secondary Legislation

MPs debated motions to approve the draft Social Security Benefits Up-rating Order 2016, and the draft State Pension (Amendment) Regulations 2016 on Monday 8 February.

Expenditure: Police Grant and Local Government Finance Reports

MPs debated motions to approve the Police Grant Report (England and Wales), and Local Government Finance Reports (England), on Wednesday 10 February 2016.

Opposition day debates

Two opposition day debates were held on Tuesday 9 February 2016. 

The first debate was on the timing of the referendum on EU membership, The subject was chosen by the Democratic Unionist Party.

The second debate was on the long-term plan for housing. The subject was chosen by the Liberal Democrats.  

Backbench business debates

On Thursday 11 February in the Commons Chamber, MPs took part in two general debates which had been schedules by the Backbench Business Committee.
