President of China visits UK Parliament

20 October 2015

The President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, gave an address to members of both Houses of Parliament on Tuesday 20 October in the Royal Gallery of the Palace of Westminster.

The last state visit from China was by President Hu Jintao in 2005.

Commons Speaker, John Bercow MP, gave a welcome address introducing President Xi's speech.

The Lord Speaker, Baroness D’Souza, thanked President Xi following his speech.

After the address, at a private reception with parliamentarians, President Xi had the opportunity to view a selection of documents from the Parliamentary Archives on display in the Robing Room. The documents were chosen to represent the UK's connections with China.
