Members of the Lords debated the current political and economic crisis in Ukraine, on 18 March.
Baroness Warsi (Conservative), senior minister of state at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, opened the debate and outlined the history of the crisis and the government's role in seeking a peaceful resolution.
The debate covered a range of issues, including:
- the question of an appropriate response
- sanctions - political, diplomatic and economic, including travel bans and asset freezes
- the need to maintain a dialogue with Russia
- potential threats to other eastern European states.
