Death of Lord Maples

Conservative peer Lord Maples died on 9 June 2012

Lord Maples was introduced in the House of Lords on 24 June 2010.

During his parliamentary career, he was MP for Lewisham West (1983 to 1992) and Stratford-on-Avon (1997 to 2010). He was president of Conservative Friends of Israel during this time.

He also served in the shadow cabinet under William Hague as shadow defence, health and foreign secretary and was later Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party
