21 July 2011

The House of Commons adjourned on Wednesday 20 July for the Summer recess. The Commons will return on Monday 5 September.

Backbench business adjournment debate

The House of Commons held a backbench business adjournment debate on Tuesday 19 July on matters to be raised before the Summer recess.

MPs raised issues relating to Business, Innovation and Skills, the Department of Health, the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Home Department, which received a response from the relevant Government Minister. This was followed by a debate on general matters.

Watch and read the views expressed by MPs during the debate on Parliament TV and in Commons Hansard.

Parliament does not sit all year round. During periods called recesses, MPs and Members of the House of Lords can carry out their other duties. The exact pattern of recesses can change and is usually slightly different for the two Houses of Parliament.
