Third reading of Local Government Bill [HL]

26 November 2010

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Robert Neill, introduced the third reading of the Local Government Bill [HL] in the House of Commons on Thursday 25 November

The Bill was not amended in the Public Bill Committee and no amendments were considered at report stage. The Bill has now completed all its parliamentary stages in both Houses of Parliament and is now awaiting Royal Assent.

Summary of the Bill

The Bill gives effect to the Coalition Government’s commitment to put a stop to existing proposals for restructuring of councils in Norfolk, Devon and Suffolk. It would prevent implementation of any of the existing proposals for a single-tier local government structure which in practice relate to these three counties under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.
