The Local Government Bill completed its report stage – line by line examination – in the House of Lords on Wednesday 28 July. The Lords adjourned at the end of business for the summer recess and is due to return on 5 October.
There was a division on amendment 4 to clause 2: Extent, commencement and short title, moved by Baroness Hollis of Heigham. The amendment was defeated.
The third reading of the Local Government Bill is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 6 October.
Further line by line examination of the Bill takes place during report stage and allows Members to revisit issues discussed previously. All suggested changes to the Bill can be discussed and votes can take place.
