Fast-track legislation: Lords Constitution Committee report

11 November 2009

Members of the Lords discussed the Constitution Committee's report on the constitutional implications and safeguards of legislation fast-tracked through Parliament on 10 November

The chairman of the Constitution Committee, Lord Goodlad, opened the debate. Baroness Royall of Blaisdon, Leader of the Lords, responded on behalf of the Government.

Lords Select Committee reports are generally discussed either on the floor of the House (in the Chamber) or in Grand Committee (away from the Chamber).

Any Member of the Lords can take part and a minister responds for the Government.

The debate usually takes place once the Government has formally responded to the committee's recommendations.
