Armed Forces: future defence policy

06 November 2009

Thirty-five Members of the Lords contributed to a debate on the Armed Forces and future defence policy on 6 November.

Members with experience in and expertise of defence issues, including former Chiefs of the Defence Staff and former Defence Ministers, contributed to a wide-ranging discussion on subjects including the Government's strategy in Afghanistan, troop and helicopter numbers and defence spend.

In the House of Lords, Members may table questions for debate, usually up to two hours and a half, on a specific issue or matter of concern. A minister responds on behalf of the Government.
