Discussion of suggested changes to the Political Parties and Elections Bill took place during the first day of committee stage in the House of Lords on 29 April
Suggested changes made by Members of the Lords covered issues such as the role of the Electoral Commission, political donations and party spending.
During Grand Committee (which takes place outside the Lords Chamber), line by line examination of the Bill takes place - as per the committee stage of a Bill in the Lords Chamber. Every amendment suggested is discussed but voting does not take place.
Grand Committee continues on 30 April.
The Bill makes some amendments to the regulation of party funding and election expenditure that is set out in the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
