Student representatives to give evidence to Lords Office for Students inquiry

Monday 17 April

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee will hear from student representatives, as it continues its inquiry into the Office for Students (OfS), the regulator of the higher education sector in England.

The session will run from 10.30am until 12.30pm on Tuesday 18 April and can be followed live on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.

Giving evidence from 10:30 to 11.30 will be:

  • Chloe Field, Vice President for Higher Education, National Union of Students

Possible questions include:

  • What is the NUS’ experience of engaging with the OfS? Is the NUS consulted by the regulator on issues of relevance to students?
  • How do students view whether higher education provides value for money?
  • What changes would enable the OfS to better reflect the views, interests and priorities of students?

Giving evidence from 11:35 to 12.40 will be:

  • Martha Longdon, former Chair of the OfS Student Panel
  • Francesco Masala, former member of the OfS Student Panel

Possible questions include:

  • How does the Student Panel provide input to and operate within the OfS? How is the Panel consulted on the OfS’ work and to what extent are its views listened to?
  • How well does the OfS engage with students more broadly?
  • Do higher education institutions give prospective students adequate information on what they can expect to receive as part of their studies?
