ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMMITTEE INQUIRY: PROVISION OF CROSS-BORDER PUBLIC SERVICES FOR WALES
The Welsh Affairs Committee has agreed to undertake an inquiry examining the provision of cross-border services for Wales. The Committee intends to proceed with the inquiry in Spring 2008 and will examine the coordination, effectiveness and funding arrangements of cross-border provision of public services. It is the Committee’s intention to focus on the provision of education, health, transport, civil service employment and broadcasting.
The Committee is particularly interested in cross-border issues as they affect
Further Education provision
Higher Education, particularly student recruitment and research funding
Specialist health provision
Pay differentials and staffing levels in the Civil Service
The Committee’s programme of hearings will be announced early in 2008. As this is an inquiry into cross-border service provision, the Committee will consider taking evidence jointly with relevant committees of the National Assembly for Wales.
