New Inquiry: Performance of London Underground

New Inquiry: Performance of London Underground

The Transport Committee will hold an evidence session to examine the performance of London Underground on Wednesday 8th December 2004.

In April 2003 London Underground completed the transfer of responsibility for the care, maintenance and renewal of its assets to the private sector through a Public Private Partnership.

This past financial year, concluding on 31 March 2004, marked the first full year of London Underground Limited and the Infracos' performance under this Public Private Partnership.

The Committee will examine whether the PPP has delivered an acceptable level of performance for London Underground customers, whether safe operation has been maintained, whether the PPP has provided value for money, and whether operation has been effectively co-ordinated and managed through Transport for London, London Underground Limited and the Infracos.

The Committee will hear evidence from the following witnesses:

At 2.45pm Metronet

Tube Lines

At 3.30pm London Underground

Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London

At 4.15pm RMT

Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF)

Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA)

The evidence session will take place in public, unless otherwise decided by the Committee. Because the meetings may be moved from the Palace of Westminster to Portcullis House, those wishing to attend the meetings should check the venue by contacting the Committee Office Information Line on 020 7219 2033 on the day before the hearings.
