PRESS NOTICE: NEW INQUIRY
The Work of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS)
The Trade and Industry Committee today announced a short inquiry into the work of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS), a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). This will be the first of a number of inquiries which the Committee intends to conduct into the DTI's Executive Agencies and NDPBs.
ACAS's mission is to improve organisations and working life through better employment relations. It is both a conciliation service and a provider of training and advice. It has just marked its 30th anniversary, and is examining actively its future development.
During the course of its inquiry the Committee will consider issues such as:
The remit and activities of ACAS now and in the future;
How ACAS contributes to increased productivity;
ACAS's performance and accountability; and
Any further relevant matters.
The Committee would welcome written evidence on these or any related issues by Friday 13 January 2006. Details of oral evidence hearings will be announced shortly after that date.
If possible, written evidence should take the form of a short memorandum of no more than 4 pages with numbered paragraphs and should be submitted, as a MS Word document, by e mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with a single hard copy sent to the Clerk at the address above.
For further information please contact the Committee Office on 020 7219 5777/ 5779.
