Standing Orders Committee

The Standing Orders Committee, which is established under Private Business S.O.103, is charged with deciding whether or not to dispense with any Standing Order, which the Examiners of Petitions for Private Bills consider has not been complied with. Often such a decision is a straightforward one, if the promoters may have simply failed to conform with a technical requirement of the Standing Orders, rather than anything more serious. The three Deputy Speakers are ex officio members. Members are nominated by the Committee of Selection and appointed for the duration of a Parliament.
