Procedure Committee

The House of Commons Procedure Committee will hold the first public evidence session in connection with its inquiry into written parliamentary questions as follows:

Wednesday 28 February at 3:00pm in Committee Room 20, Upper Committee Corridor

Witness: Rt Hon Jack Straw MP, Leader of the House

An uncorrected version of the transcript will appear on pages within about a week of the date of the session.

The terms of reference for the Committee's inquiry are:

€To consider the procedures, scope and rules governing the tabling (including the electronic tabling) of parliamentary questions for written answer;

€To examine the reasons for, and the consequences of, the recent rise in the number of such questions; and

€To consider the procedures for the answering of such questions and what opportunities are available to Members to pursue answers with which they are not satisfied.
