Lord Mandelson, the Secretary of State for Business, will next week give evidence to the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, and International Trade.

The evidence session, Lord Mandelson's first in front of a Lords Committee, will form part of the Committee's ongoing inquiry into European Trade Policy. Lord Mandelson will be asked questions relating to both his current post and his former role as European Trade Commissioner.

The Committee will question Lord Mandelson on the prospects for a conclusion to the Doha Trade Round and how this may be affected by the current economic and financial crises. They will also ask Lord Mandelson for his views on how a potential global recession may impact the prospects for continuing trade liberalisation as well as the future role and functions of the World Trade Organisation.

The evidence session will take place at 12:30pm on Thursday 6 November in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.
