Liaison Committee

Session 2005-06

30 January 2006

The Liaison Committee today publishes the Government's response to their Annual Report for 2004. They welcome a new commitment by the Leader, the Rt Hon Geoff Hoon MP, to respond to every Liaison Committee annual report.

However, the Committee - composed of all the Chairs of the Commons' Select Committees - is disappointed at the small number of draft bills to be published for pre-legislative scrutiny. The Government has previously expressed its commitment to the pre-legislative scrutiny process but has only listed three bills to be published in draft in 2006.

The report includes the Leader's response to the recommendations made in the 2004 Annual Report and a list of previous draft bills scrutinised by Select Committees.
