The Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee said:

“On March 4 the Committee raised with the Schools Minister our serious concerns about children who are missing from education, a number of whom might be at risk of forced marriage. We have therefore invited one of the local authorities identified as having a high incidence of forced marriage to discuss the issue with us.

During the course of our inquiry, we have also  been struck by the degree to which co-operation with countries overseas, especially those of the Indian sub-continent, is vital to tackling forced marriage effectively. We will hear in this session from the Minister for Consular Affairs about the work of the Foreign Office in this regard.”

Location: Wilson Room, Portcullis House
