Home Affairs Committee to Consider Implications of Rose Report as part of Surveillance Society Inquiry

At the meeting today the Home Affairs Committee discussed the inquiry announced yesterday by Jack Straw into the issue of the bugging of MPs.

The Committee is currently holding an inquiry into the issues of a "surveillance society" and it is appropriate that as part of this inquiry the committee considers issues that have arisen as a result of the Government inquiry into surveillance issues at HM Woodhill prison.

The Committee looks forward to hearing evidence from Thames Valley Police and the Home Secretary on this issue which will immediately follow the publication of the Rose report.

Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee said:

"The Committee is in the middle of an inquiry into the surveillance society and clearly this is an issue that we must and will examine."
