Home Affairs Committee Press Notice

Session 2007-08/20 17 January 2008

The Home Affairs Committee is today publishing two short reports:

Bulgarian and Romanian Accession to the EU: Twelve months on (Second Report, Session 2007-08, HC 59) and

Security Industry Authority: Licensing of Applicants (Third Report, Session 2007-08, HC 144).

Both reports follow evidence sessions with the relevant Ministers and other interested parties. The reports seek to draw attention to the main issues raised by the oral evidence, including the Committee's recommendation that those applying for Security Industry Authority registration should be asked to state whether they have a right to work in the UK, and the Romanian Government's concern over the UK's refusal to allow free movement of Romanian citizens to the UK immediately on its accession to the EU.

Rt Hon Keith Vaz, MP, Chairman of the Committee, said:

"These reports are results of one-off sessions that intended to examine topical issues of public concern. Whilst recommendations are not made they do highlight any problems and evidence that may help inform debate."

Copies of the reports will be available in the Press Gallery from 11.00 am. Copies will be posted to all witnesses and other contributors to the original report.

Media representatives who would like to receive a PDF copy of the Reports should contact Jessica Bridges Palmer, Media Adviser, tel: 020 7219 0724, email: bridgespalmerj@parliament.uk .
