The Parliamentary Archives

The Parliamentary Archives is a bicameral service based in the House of Lords. The Archives provides access to the archives of the House of Lords, the House of Commons and to other records relating to Parliament. The Archives are usually open to the public all year round, Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.00pm (apart from public holidays).

The Committee follows the wide range of information management activities which the Archives undertakes to support Parliament’s aims and objectives, including records management, Freedom of Information and Data Protection, and managing information risk. At its meeting in January 2009, the Committee discussed the subject of digital preservation with the Head of the Archives, considered the challenge posed to Parliament’s long-term digital information by technological obsolescence, and welcomed the digital preservation activities underway to counter that risk.
