Committee Visit

FAC visit to Iran

At its meeting yesterday, the Foreign Affairs Committee agreed the programme for its visit to Iran, which starts this Saturday, 18th October.

The Committee has been invited to visit Iran by its counterpart Committee in the Majlis (Iranian Parliament).  Commenting on the forthcoming visit Mr Donald Anderson, Chairman of the FAC, said

"I and my colleagues are very much looking forward to this visit, which is taking place at a vitally important time for British-Iranian relations. There are many significant issues for us to discuss with our Iranian opposite numbers, who have been very helpful in arranging meetings with key people in Iranian political circles. No-one can doubt that Iran is a country of great geo-strategic significance, with a proud history and cultural heritage. Our goal is to achieve a greater understanding of the modern Islamic Republic of Iran and its people. We can only do this by visiting Iran, seeing it for ourselves, and holding discussions with Iranian opinion-formers and decision-takers on a wide range of issues."

Eight Members of the Committee will be visiting Tehran and Isfahan, returning to London on 24th October.
